Gears of War PC

In the darkest reaches of the internet, a light is growing steadily brighter. Video footage of Epic's Gears of War for the PC was recently screened on the internet... before quickly disappearing again.

Though we've known of a few clues regarding this release, nothing had been confirmed. But now that we have seen Gears running at higher resolutions, silkier framerates and with brand new content, we can no longer deny its existence.

Supercomputer steps up the pace

The world's fastest commercial supercomputer has been launched by computer giant IBM.

Blue Gene/P is three times more potent than the current fastest machine, BlueGene/L, also built by IBM.

The latest number cruncher is capable of operating at so called "petaflop" speeds - the equivalent of 1,000 trillion calculations per second.

Google; collecting gamer profiles

Internet giant Google has drawn up plans to compile psychological profiles of millions of web users by covertly monitoring the way they play online games.

The company thinks it can glean information about an individual's preferences and personality type by tracking their online behaviour, which could then be sold to advertisers. Details such as whether a person is more likely to be aggressive, hostile or dishonest could be obtained and stored for future use, it says.

Wii Play !!

Few of the nine minigames that make up Wii Play have much staying power.
The Good: Makes good, pervasive use of Miis; comes as pack-in with wii remote.
The Bad: Lack of structure; most minigames are novel for only a short time; good minigames are hurt by a lack of gameplay options.

PS3 hits the shops

Large queues are forming outside Japanese electronics stores as gamers vie to be the first to get their hands on a PlayStation 3.

The console officially went on sale on 11 November but reports suggest few stores opened at midnight to let fans get the long-awaited gadget.

Instead stores are organising lotteries to decide who in the queue gets a PS3.

Many gamers could go home disappointed as Sony has only made 100,000 machines available on launch day.

New modding double-bill

Things seem to be hotting up on the modding front just lately. If the interest of other developers and modders is anything to go by, Quakewars seems to have already guaranteed its success even before the release of a playable demo.

Surely that has to be some kind of record?

Today's news comes courtesy of totalquakewars.com and details the announcement by the sir. community of their intention to migrate two of their mods to an ETQW platform.

Welcome to the party, guys.. the best of luck with your project.
