The +: Leveldesign and atmosphere The system The equipment The different difficulty levels | The -: The extras added by the developers (containers, crates...) which waste the "immersion" |
The message of agent E. was short and precise, as usual: "Agent S., there's a packet on your seat. Usual procedure. Over."
The packet contained the last Hitman.
The autopsy :
The craftiest murderer of the video game industry is back, and better than ever!
Graphically, the game is good without being extraordinary, but we can be content because the content more than makes up for any deficiencies.
The atmosphere alone is overwhelming and much MUCH more present than in previous Hitman episodes.
A party feeling?
Each weapon is customisable, from the double capacity cartridge clip to the assault gun silencer. Pieces, ammo, laser sights, kevlar, picking equipment, drugs, detonators, all those improvements will be available as you complete missions.
We are given a lot of choices, sometimes too many which could be criticised as useless by some players. But it does have the added bonus of allowing a player to experience the game any way he chooses best.
I haven't personally used assault weapons, but I'm sure others will do.
The equipment you can use allows you to play your prefered murderer: from professional, neat and invisible one to the Carpathian butchers supported by the weaponry industry.
The maps are big and original. From a neighbourhood street during Election time to the Opera of Paris to the personal residence of a Porn collector, each is unique and thrilling in its own way.
You'll be in the atmosphere of the place and the "immersion" will be complete.
The reknown system: video recordings, witness, bodies; each piece of the puzzle is just as important in keeping your identity secret. Be prepared to spend small fortunes to buy witness silence or a Police Superintendent if you play too carelessly.
Note that you can read the front page of all local newspapers. These can help you in gathering necessary information about victims, name and number of witnesses, etc.
Operating with tact and delicacy will always pay off and doesn't cost a thing.
The only obvious bug which sometimes causes problems is when some bodies aren't accessible. Even when standing completely on top of them, it is impossible to select them as active.
One way to solve this is to move slowly in a circle until the body becomes available, but don't be too concerned, it is not a common problem.
And what about the story?
The fourth Hitman opus takes place during a Presidential Election. One of the candidates totally supports the cloning (for latecomers, Hitman is a clone), and his opponent believes that cloning is a weapon of mass destruction. The story is comprised of a series of flashbacks and each chapter is a mission that brings you closer to the present.
Interesting technique, because it is well used and it does leave you wanting to reach the end.
Expect to spend fifteen hours in the expert mode if you're an experienced player.
