A new order?

The American Mid-Term elections have been pretty much swallowing airspace for the last few weeks. (For the three people on the planet who haven’t been watching: these elections take place approximately halfway through the current American President’s residency as ‘Most Powerful Man in the world’ and determine basically if the public still have confidence in their elected leader.)

All the votes have still to be fully counted, recounted, checked for tampering and logged as official results… but the outcome is starting to look (if you are not a Bush fan) extremely positive.

In one of the closest ever races to the finish line, both leading parties; the Republicans and the Democrats, both need to secure only one extra seat to secure dominance over the other.

Splash Damage(d) ?

Splash Damage certainly have enough to do lately and, whilst work is still feverishly ongoing to produce a product that we are all eagerly awaiting; another small spanner was thrown into the works a short time ago.

Due to a hardware failure in one of their systems; theSplash Damage site has now been offline for a couple of weeks whilst they work to rebuild the system, without losing any of the data contained on the site.

No small task it seems.

A temporary site is up and running at myspace containing some of the best news and videos from past QW experiences, and with commentary from Locki and other SD team members, its definately worth a read.

Have a Strogging Halloween!

Crawly creepies, nighttime noisemakers, all things un-, super- and preternatural; let’s face it, Halloween would have to be the Strogg Holiday of choice. If the Strogg believed in such anarchic concepts as choices and the having of favorites, that is.

Official Updates

Not content with all the behind-the-scenes busyness involved in the balancing of Quakewars itself, it seems that SplashDamage have also been hard at work on the official website recently.

The site has undergone a bit of an overhaul and the wealth of new information (not to mention the details of the newly added vehicles and deployables) available means that I will be putting in some serious overtime editing some of our own info.

Developer Diary number 3 - Why the Strogg came.

Once again, in his own inimitable fashion, Paul 'Locki' Wedgwood gives us a brief insight into the how and why of Enemy Territory: QuakeWars.

One of the many questions that fans of Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory have been asking since the concept behind ET:QW was announced is "Why have the Strogg been added?". Speculation over just how the intruduction of the implanted ones will affect this favoured genre have already swallowed many a happy evening or two on Teamspeak.

Thanks to the great media engine which keeps on turning over at Activision HQ, we are building up - slowly but surely - a bit of an insight into what the effects of the merger of W:ET and the Quakeverse will be.

But - until now - the one thing which eluded most of us was always the 'Why?'.

Thanks to Gamespy, who once again take full credit for this exclusive glimpse behind the scenes and the two new screenshots.

Gangs 4 Life

It's been a busy Mod-week this week, hot on the heels of the announcement of a further two QW mods, (released in collaberation with the sir.community) comes the announcement that Gangs4life will also be surrendering itself to the big bag of magic and mystery that is QuakeWars.

The more, the merrier!

Quakecon Revisited

A blast from the QW past, we once again return to the heady days of QuakeCon (was it really only a couple of months ago?) with Happy Friar and the PlanetQuake team . This time, delving even deeper into the subject of level design with Arnout ‘RR2DO2’ van Meer, Technical Director, Matt 'Wils' Wilson, Lead Level Designer and Francis ‘Frankie’ Hobbins, Lead Artist. Uncovering the Ark

News on and around Quakewars has been fairly slow lately, which on the one hand is good news (Splashdamage are obviously working so hard on fixing up the game that they have no time to release snippets of info to the media) but, on the other hand, our newspage is looking a little stale.

Fortunately for all of us over here, IGN have been working the exclusives engine once more.

In association with id Software and Activision, IGN proudly present the first glimpse of this awesome new map..

And now (thanks to the shameless 'borrowing' of their link and screenshots).. so do we.

Dev. Diary number 2: a little more background.

Paul 'Locki' Wedgwood once again managed to squeeze a break in his busy balancing schedule to write a sequel to his last entry on Gamespy.com.

Fortunately, this time there were no shock announcements of further delays, but instead some interesting background information and a deeper look into the how and why of MegaTexturing.

Plus, a further treat: 2 brand new GDF screens.

"My once in a lifetime"

An honest, first-person and truly passionate review, courtesy of quake-wars.eu.

"This year I decided to visit GC2006 in Leipzig Germany, normally I wouldn't think of driving 6 hours to a game convention but this one was special because Splash Damage would be there with a 24 players LAN setup showing us Quake Wars. This was probably my one and only chance to have a early preview of the game and to meet some of the devs in person.

I must say I had some expectations of visiting the stand but my expectations where nothing compared to how this day would end..."

Our own exclusive

Our intrepid reporters on the scene at GC2006 have already been extremely busy for us and even managed not to forget us in their moment of excitement.

With a great deal of thanks to MaddogX and Cerberus, who never fail to come through for us.

GC2006 begins

It's always great to be in the middle of the action, and we are so lucky to have our very own MaddogX onboard to help us achieve this goal.

Who else would selflessly load up his camera, notepad and be there in time for the opening of the doors at this year's GC2006 in Liepzig.

Hmm.. come to think of it, maybe it wasn't such a selfless act after all.

GC2006 opens it doors.

Wonderful news for all those who spent the whole of QuakeCon and E3 alternating between drooling over screenshots and sobbing that they lived so far away from all the action...

Next weekend (!!) a preview of Quakewars will be available a little closer to home.

GC 2006 opens its doors officially on the 23rd of August to members of the press and private businesses. Fortunately for the rest of us, we only have to wait one extra day to gain admittance to the holy of holies; the Activision stand! Which will be open to all comers from the 24th to the 27th.

Weekends will never be the same again!

Three whole days of QW-ing yourself blind is just too good to miss. This time next week, I'll be packing my bags, ready to cause some serious mayhem in Liepzig (those poor locals won't know what hit them!) ... who's with me?

Life after QuakeCon

Two particularly read-worthy articles have appeared since the last of the QuakeConners packed up their bags and shipped out of the Dallas Hilton yesterday.

Shacknews were once again the first to air their views and predictions.

Closely followed by a great interview featured on Atomicgamer. The cross-examination of Kevin Cloud and Paul Wedgwood always makes voor good brain fodder. See if you can spot any extra hints that we might have missed?

Also as an added extra: Kevin Cloud's views on Game Piracy . Could that be something to watch for in future id releases?
