Dev diary #4
It's been a while since we heard anything on the 'dev' front from the guys over at SD HQ, but, once again, their latest offering was worth the wait.
In his first Dev diary, published courtesy of gamespy, Edward 'Bongoboy' Stern; Senior Game Designer at SplashDamage, takes us even further behind the scenes into the intriguing Quake universe and the decision to include the well-known Quake story in the development of ETQW.
A thoroughly interesting read!

Are you an addict?
Video games have become a funfair for the mind. Their worlds of shifting reality have an effect similar to drugs or alcohol, where you can forget about your problems and the hassles of everyday life.
But what if you want the ride to stop and you want to get off? Well, in the same way as many drugs and alcohol, it is not always that easy.

Powerplay exclusive
Taken from cynamite.de and translated with the help of MadDogX:
"Quake Wars: Video featuring exclusive commentary
Currently the only German magazine to do so; PC Powerplay has paid an exclusive
visit to the creators of Quake Wars. In this video, editor Rüdiger Steidler describes
all the innovations this new multiplayer shooter has to offer.
Quake Wars has the potential to become the front-runner of all multiplayer shooters.
Discover all the strengths and weaknesses of ETQW in this extensive PC
Powerplay title story. Since there was no time to put a video on the DVD,
Rüdiger Steidler has added his own commentary to the recently released
trailer exclusively for Cynamite.de.
PC Powerplay 12/2006 with the title story "Quake Wars" and the report
"The Jowood file" will be available on Wednesday, November 22nd 2006."
Be advised: all text is in German (duh?)

Closed Beta
When I was about 6, my favourite film was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Something about the principal of a golden ticket opening the door to a magical world appealed to my overly-active imagination. (The once-in-a-lifetime, chance-in-a-million thing gets me every time!)
Now, that I am *ahem* all grown up, the magic is still there.. or at least the idealism, anyway. In much the same way as Charlie happened upon his 24-carat entrance slip, many QW fans and community admins are soon (or maybe they already have?) going to be waking up to the little ticket they have been waiting for for so long... an email containing a little code, which in turn gains them entree to untold wonders.
The good news is that, there are many more than 5 of these 'tickets'.
The bad news? They are just as hard to come by!
Don't forget to keep checking your email... and if you do happen to see a mail from Activision, id or Splashdamage waving 'Hello' to you and proudly bearing a sequence of numbers and letters which promise to unlock the portal to BetaWorld... come and tell me all about it!!

PS3 - the first reviews
Japanese gamer Teruma Naito from Oda City was one of the lucky few to bag a PlayStation 3. Here he gives his impressions of launch day and his early experience with the console.
The news footage of more than 1,000 people lined up outside the first shop to sell the PS3 in Tokyo was phenomenal...

nVIDIA 8800 launch demo
Used (appropriately) to display the outstanding abilities of the new 8800 series at nVIDIA's latest launch party, Quakewars once more lived up to its reputation as a showstealer.
(Be advised that any defects viewed in gameplay are caused by an adaptation to the new hardware, and in no way relate to advances made in the game itself since previous videos have been released)
This new video shows scenes from the Ark map... and more than accurately demonstrates the capabilities of nVIDIA's latest assets.
Be prepared for some (not so) small waiting times.

Meet the real (?) Borat
Not many of us have missed Borat. Borat is fast becoming an institution. How many people do you know who haven't started adding the words 'is niiiice' to the end of practically every sentence they utter these days?
Exactly...
So, it's probably no surprise that whilst Borat has many fans, there are just as many viewers out here wanting a piece of the action.
